One More Smart Thing Your Smart Phone Can Do

Mobile phones can do a lot today, but here is one more smart thing your smart phone can do. Now your smart phone can tell you if your weed control herbicide is likely to work. Daniel Waldstein, technical Market Manager with BASF, says that now a grower can check on his phone if there has been enough rain to activate his herbicide, “Growers can now get information on the probability of the success of their herbicide application.”

The system is very site specific. You can check field by field. “It is sort of like Google Maps,” Waldstein said. “It can be very site specific and pull data from the nearest weather station and use an algorithm to extrapolate the odds your chemical is working.” Different chemicals require different levels of moisture to become active, so this tool will take the guesswork out of calculations. Waldstein stated, “For example, Outlook Herbicide only takes ½ inch of moisture to activate, while some other products take over an inch of rain before they start to work.”

It is a free service, so plug it into your bookmarks: reliableactivation.com.
